Award – Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library Short-Term Research Fellowship

I’m thrilled to have been awarded a second Short-Term Research Fellowship at one of my favourite places in the world, the Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library in Wilmington, Delaware. During my first visit I made extensive use of the Winterthur’s collections of scrapbooks, albums, pieced quilts, commonplace books, furniture and objet d’art as part of my ‘Collage before Modernism’ research project, focusing on the collaged ‘whole’, and its relationship with constructing the identities and emotions of those who made it. This time, I’ll be thinking a lot more about the materiality and medium of collage, and will examine the materials and tools that were used in its production, from scissors, needles and stamps, to papers, trade catalogues and examples of graphic design.

I’ll be visiting Winterthur in August of 2020, and I’ll be sure to post lots about my research progress when I do!
